This episode gave us Blitzo hearing things that he needed to hear because for once he was forced to listen instead of fighting back. What needs to happen for the relationship to heal is for Stolas to hear what he needs to hear. Yes, he needs to know about Blitzo's trauma, but more important I think is that he learns that their relationship was literally transactional from the beginning. Stolas sees Blitzo as his first friend, but he hasn't internalized, if he knows at all, that Blitzo's dad sold him for that purpose.

They need to go to couples therapy.😂

You’re absolutely right that it shouldn’t be normalized how toxic kitchens can actually be, unfortunately, this show’s depiction is incredibly realistic. I worked at a family owned pizza place for nearly 3 years and I can tell you that bullshit initiation and people just fucking with you just because is so real. We’d be low on meat, I’d get sent to go get more and I’d come back and the meat had been replaced, making me have to go back and put the stuff away, rendering the whole affair pointless when I could’ve kept doing my job. The people who did prep for the salad bar could be really chatty and didn’t always pay attention and more than once I accidentally walked into or backed into a knife. Thankfully it was never severe but seriously what the fuck? If you were a cook on the line, the other cooks would grab a fistful of yeast (I think it was, we had it nearby the prep tables) and randomly put it down the back of someone’s shirt.

I think I'd watched this at least three times before I'd noticed the Tangerine Dream playing in the background of that first counter scene. They just draw you in sooooo effectively, and their never-ending shout outs to Chicago movie references are always welcome.

There's a 24 hour diner near me that I sometimes hit up in the middle of the night and the place is the epitome of 'Dinner and a show' like you mentioned. It's in a college town so after 2am you get the drunks and club folks as well as the usual houseless folks getting a cheap cup of coffee and a warm/cool seat. The cooks are right behind the counter, there really is no 'back of house', and the wait staff will absolutely start yelling about calling the cops if someone's acting out. It's one of my favorite spots, I love it.

Not knowing what Daemon said to Blood and Cheese parallels perfectly with how they cut away from his "heir for a day" toast in the very first episode of season 1. What you see is Viserys sending Daemon away in a rage because Viserys assumes the worst interpretation. Rhaenyra does the exact same thing. And we the audience don't know whether they're right or not.

One detail that gets lost without having the subtitles on is that the way Alastor's line in the song is transcribed implies that whoever holds his leash _planned_ on him dying: "This place reeks of death, there's a chill in the air, And I barely escaped being _killed_ by a hair... 'Great Alastor, altruist, died for his friends'... Sorry to disappoint - that is _not_ where this ends!" Whoever is forcing him to protect the Hotel was doing so with the expectation that he'd wind up laying down his life in the process eventually. He's a sacrificial pawn aiming to make it to the other side of the board, no matter what it takes.

Semi-spoilers One of the great things about this show is making you hate a character, and then making you absolutely love them.

Since it has come up a few times, I am fairly sure they are running so tight on money they cannot afford to hire and train anyone new. Add to that it is famously hard to find workers in the food industry at this time. The better option is to work with the crew already there as they are capable but just incredibly disorganized and jaded. Let’s not forget he was trading denim for meat in episode 1. Lol

here's my 2 cents re:Daemon. we hear the phrase "a son for a son" 2 times. the first time it's in ep.1 when he asks Raenys to go with him to kill Aemond and Vaghar. the second is from Blood & Cheese. it is clear to me that Daemon told them the phrase when he instructed them. we didn't hear him say it, which means that there was more to that conversation that we didn't hear. Raenys remembered the phrase, put 2 and 2 together and immediately knew that Daemon was behind the attack. so far so good. now, what did Daemon mean when he said "a son for a son"? did he mean just Aemond? did he also mean Aegon? did he mean ANY son? based on how smug Daemon is afterwards, I can only conclude that he either 1. wanted things to turn out as they did or 2. didn't much care who died as long as blood was spilled (not unlike Aegon when he killed all of the ratcatchers). now, why did he insist it was a "mistake"? maybe he realised that he had messed up. or maybe he didn't want to reveal his hand and tried to manipulate Rhaenyra. in any case, I don't believe him. Rhaenyra is right to never trust him fully. Daemon remains my favourite character - we love to mistrust him ^^ Omn1 was right to say that we can never hate Matt Smith as Daemon <3

Coming back to the pilot after seeing the entirety of both the first season of _Hazbin Hotel_ and the (currently) 17 episodes of _Helluva Boss,_ it's fun spotting the prototype designs of major cast members from both shows: Blitzø and Loona are both in the studio audience, while Fizz was watching from outside the Radio Hack with Alastor, and Vassago was among the crowd of people Alastor has tangled with in Vaggie's explanation; Carmilla Carmine and her daughters, Zestial, the Vees and Rosie all made appearances in the first number, while Mimzy briefly showed up near the end of the second (along with a few other characters who've yet to make an appearance, but who were originally planned to), we saw Zeezi Zilla in the modern club during the cutaways. It really illustrates just how much of this world Viv and her team had already created, even at the very beginning.
